According to the IBM Internet Security Systems^TM X-Force® 2009 Mid-Year Trend and Risk Report, vulnerability disclosures affecting Web applications as a whole have increased more than fourfold since 2005. Similarly, the 2009 Data Breach Investigations Report published by Verizon Business tells us that of the 285 million data records compromised in 2008, 93 percent or just over 265 million, were records of financial services firms.
